Dear Friends and Neighbors,
As we approach the end of our momentous 75th Anniversary year, I find myself reflecting on the enduring legacy of four generations of my family serving Fleetville, Benton Township, and the surrounding communities. Being a part of the Fleetville Volunteer Fire Company fills me with immense pride, and I eagerly anticipate carrying forward its rich traditions.
As we embark on the holiday season, I am delighted to share updates on the remarkable achievements of the Fleetville Volunteer Fire Company over the past year. None of this would have been possible without your generous financial support and the dedicated efforts of our volunteers. We extend a warm invitation to everyone to join us, as there are numerous ways to get involved, from firefighting to supporting fundraisers. Your participation is invaluable.
Throughout the year, our firefighters have been diligently engaged in training to enhance their skills and better serve our community. Certifications in hazardous materials, vehicle rescue, and upcoming Firefighter 1 certification tests this spring are just a few examples. Such training incurs financial obligations for tuition
and instructors, and your generosity plays a crucial role in meeting these costs. We are committed to delivering the highest level of emergency service possible.
Excitingly, in 2024, we will be adding an additional piece of apparatus—a used engine that will serve as our primary response vehicle for emergencies in Benton Township. Our existing engine will be tailored for both firefighting and vehicle rescue services. With the growth in our number of firefighters, operating expenses have increased, particularly in providing each responder with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), totaling around $8,000 per firefighter. Your contributions significantly aid in meeting this growing yet necessary expense.
Our annual Fall Fair has evolved into a monumental event, thanks to the support of attendees, sponsors, and volunteers. This event is a vital source of funding, but to ensure our ongoing progress, we rely on your generosity during this year’s fund drive.
In addition to investing in firefighting equipment and training, we are actively working on improving our facility both inside and out. Facility enhancements, including the addition of lighting and electricity to pavilions, the repainting of the floor in our fire station and hall, new lockers, chairs and table have been made possible through the dedication of our volunteers, donations and awarded grants. However, rising expenses, such as power, heating, and trash, pose ongoing challenges.
While we continue to seek support through grants and other programs, your donation ensures we can provide the service you have come to depend on.
The entire membership of the Fleetville Volunteer Fire Company extends our heartfelt gratitude for your continued financial assistance.
Blessings to you and yours in 2024.
Warm regards,
Tony Saxton, Chief
